awkward pedagogical metaphors

So i love my comp-ling teacher, and today was good for a laugh. We were talking about manipulating lists recursively in prolog, which involves repeatedly removing the first element and "putting" it somewhere else. To try to clarify, he said that we want to get to the green center of an onion, and that we are going to be peeling off layers. He got to the part of the explanation where that part of the recursion was done, and said "ok, and now we fry the center of the onion, and start putting all those layers back on!" and traced how the layers get "put" back on in the third argument.

When that part of class was over, i thought "hmm, so we have an onion with a fried center... this does not sound appetizing. I do not feel as though we have accomplished much..."

:D

just thought i'd share

sweet

This will be an amazing quarter

bio h116: bio II
phil 650: metatheory of logic
phil 660: advanced epistemology
psych 612: cognitive science
ling 684.01: computational linguistics I

whoaz, especially b/c my cog-sci prof specializes in computational models of the brain. cog-sci and comp-ling should go together nicely.

and most amazingly i have a paid research position... a job which i'll enjoy, which pays much better than meijer, and, most importantly, which matters.

w00t!
